Crowns
There are many reasons why a crown may be necessary to
restore your tooth such as fracture, decay, large weak fillings,
discoloration, and some teeth with root canals.
A certain amount of the original tooth must be removed to
provide space for the crown to restore the tooth to proper size
and shape since it will be placed over the tooth.
Crowns are fabricated in dental labs and generally require
two appointments to complete.
During the first appointment the tooth is prepared to
create space for the new crown.
Then, an impression is made of the prepared tooth to be
sent to the lab and a temporary crown is made to be placed until
the next appointment. During
the second appointment the final crown is fitted on the tooth, and
the color and bite are checked.
Once these steps have been completed, the crown is cemented
over the prepared tooth.
